Over the years, Imagiread has developed a strong case for Family Literacy and why it is one of the most important educational investments there is. We started off talking to families about their challenges and concerns where Family Literacy and Parent Engagement are regarded and with that feedback we developed programs and events in support of. Over the years, we have reached more than 25,000 families and are on target to double that number by the end of the year 2015.
One of the most important goals is to continue to engage families with quality literature that speaks to them personally and collectively. In order to do that, we know that we must continue to develop programs for families with the input of families. That is truly the only way the stance of literacy equality and advancement of such can thrive, in an unbiased and rigorously cultivated environment. That being, Imagiread has recently redefined our company and community goals. They are to:
1. Publish quality children’s literature that celebrates today’s family comprehensively portraying art, culture and social responsibility as the medium (our core values).
2. Review and highlight works that support family values, teach and encourage tolerance and portray the value of differences in an inclusive fashion.
3. Develop sustainable programs that uphold said core values with partners who support the growing need for culturally competent Parent and Family Engagement.
4. Continue to collect, sort and prioritize engagement data for the advocacy of divergent Family Literacy programming to present to local and national legislation.
All imaginations matter and we are now more hopeful than ever that the greatest change in multi-cultural literature is yet to come.
