We’ve been excited about Gene Luen Yang becoming the National Ambassador of Children’s Literature for some time. It’s been really good to see that the role is being diversified and held by authors from all walks of life with different and inspiring passions for children’s literature. Here recently, we shared information about Gene’s Reading Without Walls Challenge. The challenge is in progress and was designed to get little ones reading about different people in hopes that they will connect their experiences to learn something about themselves. Gene, and the School Library Journal, just released a comic strip that illustrates the importance of being empathetic and why it’s so important to read without walls. Download the strip here.
